Leaves are simple, alternate, have stipules and are palmately ribbed. It has large fragrant nocturnal white flowers, occuring in axillary fascicles. Fruit is a capsule, angled and furfuraceaous. This plant is seen only in cultivation. It yields a reddish wood used for planking; often grown as an ornamental or shade tree.
